The Aromatic Thuya Wood is unique to the Western Atlas mountains of Morocco.
Thuya wood artefacts are made of a rare African burled fragrant wood that is found only in the Thuya trees grown in a small region of Morocco. No trees were cut to make these boxes. Instead, roots from trees cut down years ago have been dug up and used to create these beautiful masterpieces
Surface Quality of Thuya Wood
Thuya wood is difficult to work with and all our items are handcrafted, thus there are knotholes, nicks and other imperfections in the wood which become a part of each items character. The boxes are finished with lemon oil to attain a high lustre. The burl of the wood has different absorbency characteristics and this is noticeable.
