Cut
This is where man takes over from nature, unlocking the hidden beauty in a rough diamond. The rainbow effect, seen in a well cut diamond, is produced by light, entering the stone through the Table (see above), being refracted and reflected internally from one facet to another and eventually leaving the stone through the Table again. Here it is broken down into all the colours of the spectrum. A well cut stone does this perfectly, because all the angles are calculated and polished correctly. A less well made stone will "leak" light from the sides, giving a less fiery appearance.
Each Diamond is a miniature work of art.
The illustration above shows some of the more popular cuts, there are many more, all of them calculated to precision to produce the finest fire.
