To date, the demand for wine education from the general public, has never been greater. Fuelled very much since the mid 1980's, when countries like Australia and Chile, started to bring new and exciting wines to the UK, we have never looked back.

More recently, this interest seems to parallel the growing fascination for culinary diversity, from near home or, the furthest corners of the world.

Above all, there is a growing desire to match good food with good wine but perhaps more importantly............ THE CORRECT WINE.

CHOOSING A BOTTLE OF WINE

Have you considered doing some kind of wine course?

How do you get on when you need to choose and take a bottle to friends to accompany dinner?

Do you find yourself asking one or some, or all of the following questions when you stand in front of the wine shelves?.......

I want a wine to match the ingredients for tonight's dinner..but I haven't a clue!

I want a change from my usual choice but the labels are so confusing.

I don't know anything about wine. How can I possibly choose from all these different bottles?

What do the words Viognier and Grenache mean on the label?

What is the significance of the words "fruit from old vines" on the label?

I feel stupid to ask a member of staff for advise and will they know anything anyway?...Have I got time?

If some bottles are more expensive, does it always mean that they are better quality?

I am prepared to spend more on a bottle but will I be disapointed when I taste it?

..........All things considered, I think I will stick with my usual choice.

Having spent many years on the wine selling floor, I can tell you that the above is a very common occurence. In this situation, often what helps a great deal, are a few words of simple advice.....

Information to help broaden a persons wine knowledge, takes just a few minutes of their valuable time.

Apart from essentially, having a satisfied customer who has spent money... The result for them is having learnt something and acquired a tiny bit of confidence to buy something different in future.

For a lot of people, this often ignites a desire to learn more...sometimes a lot more! Sound like you perhaps?

THE SOLUTION?

See Upcoming wine events and courses page.

Either route chosen, will help you to experience excellent wines. Be able to choose wines with a good degree of confidence and expand your knowledge in a subject, which is becoming increasingly popular in the UK today.
