WSET Foundation Course Level 1 - Wines
This course is enormously popular, aimed at the complete beginner and will be running in 2012.
Suitable for those with very little or no previous wine knowledge. It is often the case that many experienced wine drinkers, lack proper understanding of the subject. This course provides a basic yet comprehensive of wine knowledge.
Additionally, it sets in place, the building blocks for continued structured learning for those who might want to progress to WSET Intermediate Level 2 and Advanced Level 3.
Unlike Levels 2 & 3, there is considerable attention to the principles in food and wine pairing. This course will appeal to those who particularly enjoy wine with food.

Level 1 Course Content
A focus upon the very basics of what wine is, taking in key grape varieties, how wine is made, the types of wine available. Together with food and wine pairing principles, proper storage and service of wine is also covered.
Practical work forms a large part of the syllabus. Most of the class involves learning to taste wine using a structured approach, together with food and wine pairing exercises.
The course culminates with a short examination of 30 multiple choice questions, a completed portfolio of tasting notes produced during the course and a successful food and wine pairing assessment.
Formal but fun and and above all, very useful, regardless of whether you intend to continue onto Level 2.
Held over 4 consecutive Tuesday evenings, starting 6th March and finishing 27th March 2012. Classes begin at 6.30pm and finish at 8.45pm.
The total price of £199 per person, includes six ISO tasting glasses, all wine and food samples, study materials, full tuition, examination entry and subject to passing, a WSET certificate.

WSET Intermediate Course Level 2 - Wines
Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) accredited tutor Chris Rawlings AIWS, will be running this wine education course over 9 weeks in 2012.
Aimed at the beginner, or those with some patchy knowledge........ This is an excellent opportunity for you to broaden your wine awareness and qualify for the WSET Intermediate (Level 2) Certificate in Wines and Spirits.
The course is conducted in the usual WSET format and while being formal, is still enjoyable and rewarding. Course nights will be held weekly in Canary Wharf, on consecutive Tuesday evenings starting October 9th until December 4th, from 18.30 to 20.45hrs. Week one only, will start at 18.00, to enable registration and issue of course materials before class commences. Week 9 is examination day, comprising 50 multiple choice questions.
Course cost £399.00 per person. This is based on a minimum of 13 and maximum of 20 candidates. The price includes six ISO tasting glasses, all wine samples, study materials, full tuition, examination entry and subject to passing, a WSET certificate.

Course Content
The course will cover a basic outline of the global wine industry. You will learn about production methods, including vine growth and wine making and the principal wine producing countries and regions within. All types and styles of wine will be covered, including the main grape varieties used. The course also explores spirits and liqueurs.
Wine tasting and evaluation
Learning how to taste wine will be a major part of the course. In order for students to develop personal tasting skills and to help recognise and evaluate wine from different origins, the WSET systematic approach to tasting will be followed.
Examination
The examination will comprise of 50 multiple-choice questions and students who pass the course will receive a WSET certificate
- 56-69% = pass
- 70-85% = pass with merit
- 86% + = pass with distinction
