CHARTER DINNER TOP TABLE FEBRUARY 2006

SENIOR VICE FRANK WITH AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLAR

Stuart Martin was inducted as the new President by Immediate Past President Roger Claymore at the Club's last meeting in June. Unfortunately this year, our much respected local photographer, Jim Thompson, wasn't available to do the honours. It is well known that Jim HATES having his own photo taken!!!!! - However, as Jim prepared for the presidential handover photograph for 2004, our amateur snapper managed to capture this moment - GOTCHA JIM!

Here we see three stalwart members of the Club perusing the 'red book' for David Carlyle on a lovely sunny day in June.

from L to R - Jim Wilson, Jack Wilson and Past President Hugh Crawford (since this photograph was taken sadly Jack Wilson has passed away, but the photo will remain in honour to his memory and services to our Club as Press Officer for many years)

Past President Graham Herbert displaying the Chancellor's Medal presented to him by Syracuse University in recognition of his efforts to preserve the Lockerbie/Syracuse link following Pan Am 103. Graham is the 23 rd receipient of this prestigious award since 1967. The Medal was presented at the 14th Annual Remembrance Convocation in November 2003. Go to www.syr.edu and search for remembrance scholars for more.

Charity Wishing Wells

The Club has constructed two wishing wells wish are situated at the ANNANDALE WATER service station on the M74 near Johnstonebridge and at the Woollen Mill in MOFFAT. The Wells were manufactured by Past Presidents David Rothwell and Robert Wyllie. They are emptied regularly by the Community Services Convener.

Displays situated adjacent to the Wells were produced by Past President Harry Smith, the displays indicate the work of  Rotary in general and Lockerbie Rotary Club in particular. Each year the Club nominates two charities to receive the proceeds ? one charity is usually local and the other international.

Daffodil Planting

Over the years, Lockerbie Rotarians have planted many thousands of daffodil bulbs around the town of Lockerbie and district. The bulbs purchased at a nominal price from a horticulturalist decorate many a roundabout, verge and local school. If you visit the town when the daffodils are in bloom - remember who is likely to have planted them!

The latest planting site is cemetery brae which is near to the Garden of Remembrance. The webmaster learned that the tradition for planting began in 1979 when Hugh Crawford was President. We calculate some 70,000 bulbs have been planted since. Unfortunately 2002 was probably the last year, because energy costs and cheap imports have forced the supplier to cease production of these beautiful flowers.

AND FOR OLD TIMES SAKE!
