Spanish is an easy language to learn and be understood in. All you've got to do is remember that the pronunciation never varies and that the words that look like English might be pronounced differently, so don't read it in English. (example total should sound more like tow-tAhl)
Ready?
- A= is always aww (aww, cute little baby!)
- E= is always eh (Canadian eh?)
- I= is always eeh (eek! a mouse)
- O= is always o (oh! I did'nt know that!)
- U= is always ooh (Woof! even dogs can speak!)
The consonants are quite easy, the sounds are about the same as English with possibly a few exceptions.
- G= almost always has a hay sound unless it's at the front of a sentence, then it's the hard sound you say when you say "gun"
- J= this will always have an "h" sound, you might spell a sentence then this way "jey (hey)i did'nt know that!"
- Ch= is always pronounced like the first sound in CHOP
- R= this is one of the tricky ones, it's got a dR sound run them together and then you'll have it
- RR= Trill your rr, you'll be alright, roll your rr, you'll be even better but some people are genetically incapable of this, so repeat after me.....dra...dra...run these two sounds together, remember playing with cars? what sound did you make?
Now that you've learned how to read Spanish, find something to read, practice it and you'll notice you already knew these words!
