NICKLAUS GOLF MAKES ITS POINTS AND PROVIDES GOLFERS WITH NEW LEVEL OF CONFIDENCE THROUGH DUAL POINT TECHNOLOGY ADVANTAGE
WEST PALM BEACH, FL. -- Everyone tries to get their point across in order to make observers into believers and believers into users, particularly in the golf industry.
That’s double the case with Nicklaus Golf Equipment where Dual Point Technology Advantage gives golfers “A New Level of Confidence.”
Further substantiation of the Dual Point Technology comes from the acknowledgement in the February issue of Golf Digest which places the 460cc driver on its annual Hot List… the driver with “plenty of heat inside.”
The Golf Digest Hot List panel of testers also said: “Might be the most pleasant surprise of the year. This thing (Dual Point driver) is definitely on steroids.” That accolade came from a panel made up of Golf Digest staff, scientists, players, teaching pros and golf retailers.
The accolade was no surprise to Clay Long, one of the industry’s best known club designers. “The Dual Point Advantage is simply good physics,” says Long, who is Chief Designer for Nicklaus Premium Golf Equipment line.
Long used the same Dual Point Technology in designing fairway woods (3, 5, 7) and hybrids (2, 3, 4, 5) for the Nicklaus Premium Golf Equipment collection.
“It’s one of those examples of great attention to detail and trying to get all elements lined up just perfectly so that we get the most out of our club that we can get -- the highest ball velocity that we can get, the most solid shot, the best feeling club. The way to do that is to get these two entities to line up with the center of gravity on the face of the club to give ball contact a trampoline effect.
“If you don’t have Dual Point Technology Advantage in your driver, you don’t have the best driver you can get in your hands. That’s for sure,” adds Long.
With the Dual Point Advantage, this is the age of booming drives and pinpoint control. What compresses properly springs forth powerfully (within USGA limits, of course).
“Every driver face has a point on it that has the maximum amount of flexibility – somewhere close to the center of the face. It’s the point on the trampoline that’s the easiest to bend down,” explains Long. “If you jump on the side of the trampoline you don’t go down very far. If you jump in the middle you go down pretty far and you spring up a lot higher. A face of a driver is not unlike that. Somewhere in the middle of the club, depending on the shape of the face and its construction, is the point where you get the most rebound.” Finding that point is half the battle! Dual Point Technology achieves that goal.
“If you have a driver where the center of gravity is not in the center of the most flexible point of the face, then the solid part of your driver is not the hottest part of your driver. The part where the club feels the best and transfers the most energy to the club doesn’t let the face transfer as much energy as it can,” says Long.
“But when you couple these two things together and have everything lined up, and then you have everything working in concert. You have the center of gravity on the hottest/sweetest spot on the face so everything works together to give you the most solid and the fastest ball speed that you can get out of your driver when you hit it on that spot. Anything other than that is not as efficient and not as hot. It’s no more complicated than that.”
Variable face thickness also helps the Dual Point Advantage due to an elliptical thick spot in the center of the face that flexes more and creates a larger hot spot on the face as well as a very high C.O.R. (Coefficient of Restitution).
It also creates A New Level of Confidence when you hit your shots with clubs that feature the Dual Point Technology.
“You certainly should have a high level of confidence in the Nicklaus product because it’s been very well put together and very well designed and tested,” says Long. “All the performance is there. The background! The testing! Jack himself has looked at throughout the entire design process, hit and approved all these products; so you’ve got Jack’s hand in it.
“Confidence is buying products that do what they’re supposed to do and our products definitely do that,” adds Long.
Confidence is also knowing that the Nicklaus Golf Equipment Co. is always striving to not only develop the best products possible for golfers to play and enjoy, but also to constantly improve its existing products. That’s what the company has done with the Dual Point Advantage. Modifications on the original have created more of an advantageous Advantage, not only in the drivers but also in the fairways.
In the driver, for instance, Nicklaus Golf has moved 14 grams of weight further back in the club head by changing its shape to give it less surface area and moving the center of gravity back.
The fairway woods are a little bit shallower than last year’s model, which again helps lower the center of gravity. That makes it easier to get the head under the ball when it’s sitting on the ground. Nicklaus Golf has also worked to pull the center of gravity further back on the hybrids.
“It hits the ball higher than last year’s club but it doesn’t spin the ball,” says Long of the improved fairways. “The shape is outstanding and we’ve made some improvements over last year’s club in those respects.”
