Quality not quantity describes our company. I am also tempted to borrow the motto of the famous Glenfiddich Whiskey: Made Without Compromise.
Being a small company, we listen to our customers, and many of the products are developed in close dialogue with enthusiastic (and persnickety) customers.

Customer feedback about the shaving soap: "Hello, I'm not really one to do this sort of thing but I have to say something about the shaving soap I bought off you the other week. I have stupidly sensitive and specific skin, if a soap doesn't have tallow or lanolin in then my skin is going to hurt like the devil, dry out and go bright red. You can throw all the glycerin and palm oil in the world at it and it won't make the slightest bit of difference-and just having tallow or lanolin in isn't a guarantee of it not being murder to use either-like Mitchell's for example. But your shaving soap is truly outstanding, easily as good as Creed and better than everything else I've used, and now that D.R.Harris have altered their formula (I don't know if this is a recent development because the last time I bought any was in the mid nineties, and I bought a great deal of it) Fitjar shaving soap will take its place for everyday use. I had despaired at ever finding a replacement, but thanks to you I have. It really is that good, so thank you."
"Just a short Email, to say thank you for a wonderful product. I have been reading with great interest on a lot of Wet Shaving Blog's with regards to your shaving cream's. I had almost given up trying too obtain some here in the U.K, then to my surprise the company in the U.K " Executive Shaving " sent me a newsletter, low and behold your product was listed. Most of the shaving blogs ie: Badger & Blade, Shaving 101 and Shave My Face had all given it great reviews. I myself have tried and rejected a lot of High End shaving creams to name but a few, Creed, AOS, Truefitt & Hill, D R Harris, Castle Forbes, Floris and Geo F Trumper. Whilst all listed are very good, yours is a class on it's own. Very slick, good cushioning, and what an explosion of lather. I really do believe that it also helps to prepare your face/stubble for the blade in that it would appear not only to lift the stubble but to absorb into the hair to make it swell. The reviews which I refer too,do not do your products real justice, unless you have tried it for yourself it is very difficult either to explain in words what the wet shaving world has been waiting for. It really does what it say's on the tin ( Jar ) an exceptional shaving cream you have created a worthy winner." |

Shaving with traditional shaving soap or shaving cream is not an easy solution. It takes time and patience. Whether you use a knife or a razor, be prepared to spend some time getting the hang of it.
The three most important ingredients aside from shaving soap are: 1. A shaving brush of your choice 2. Really hot water in abundance 3. Time
Take time to soften and warm your face with hot water and a gentle cleansing bar, it is often the best pre-shave treatment. Some prefer softening the stubbles with an oil, but others claim that a rich, gentle facial bar does the trick. For other hints, look at the FAQ page. |

NATURAL SHAVING CREAM AND SHAVING SOAP |
 |
|
Fitjar Soap manufactures two types of shaving soap: hard shaving soap and a soft shaving soap, most often referred to as shaving cream (not to be confused with the aftershave cream, a completely different product.
Fitjar Soap shaving soap is without palm oil, but contains tallow, so it is not well suited for vegans. (I really should make a vegan alternative). It is easy to work up a luscious, long lasting lather with this soap. Shaving soap is excellent for softening the stubbles before shaving, whether you use razor or knife. A helpful gadget is a scuttle or even just a plain bowl on the side, which you can use to work up the lather and add more water until you have created the perfect lather for your shave. Others find that a shaving bowl is not necessary, they lather up right in the jar (that is why the jar is bigger than the soap).
Shaving soap is now also available as a simple "puck", easy to fit into your favourite bowl or tub. I have recently taken to adding tallow to the soap formula, along with a combination of soft soap/hard soap making technique that is my own, creating a superbly moisturizing and cushioning lather.

Some prefer shaving cream, which you can lather up in a bowl or actually in the palm of your hand, or directly in the jar. Our handmade, natural shaving cream is gentle and makes a superb lather.

FITJAR FRAGRANCE VARIETIES:
Fitjar shaving products are only scented with real, pure essential oils. This gives the product a fresh, discreet fragrance with a natural appeal. But we are not able to offer scents like lily of the valley, carnation, apple and other fragrances that one is dependent on synthetic components to create.
While we cannot guarantee that everyone can tolerate the fragrances of our products, there have been very few reports of allergic reactions. However, if you have very sensitive skin it is wise to stay away from the stronger fragrances, or try it on a smaller area of skin before you lather up and shave your whole face.
The following is an attempt at describing the different fragrance varieties that we offer. Please note that not every variety is offered in every product range. Some of the more obscure varieties will be discontinued if not enough people buy them. You are most welcome to purchase small samples of shaving creams (at a price, of course, small samples are very labour intensive to assemble) if you are uncertain which scent to choose).
AMBER
Classic amber, need we say more? Sweet, deep, almost old fashioned, with an enigmatic aura of animal warmth.
BEE MY HONEY
A more natural emollient than real honey can scarcely be found. And used as an ingredient in shaving products it provides a most soothing experience. Beeswax absolu is added for a soft and gentle fragrance that will not irritate or overpower. This variety is a favourite of men with extremely dry and/or sensitive skin.
BREGNESKOG – NORWEGIAN FERN
This is a green, mossy forest fragrance, reminiscent of dewy fresh ferns. It is fresh and deep at the same time. A special blend of costly essential oils and extracts: lavender, rose geranium, oakmoss, violet leaf, patchouly. One of my favourites and I am very proud of having created this blend.
CALMOMILLA
Calming chamomile and lavender, perfecly blended with soothing cedarwood. Do you need a relaxing retreat in the midst of a busy day? Is your skin stressed out and your nerves frazzled? Then this should be the scent you pick: it’s like sinking into a soft armchair after a tiring day. Very suitable for sensitive skin.
CITRUS BALM
Refreshing citrus notes tempered with soothing spikenard and benzoe. Kind of like Citrus Kick with soft slippers on.
CITRUS KICK
Feisty wake-up fragrance. An energetic mix of citrus essential oils, with black pepper mixed in to give it that certain bite. Please note: Some people are sensitive to black pepper and find this fragrance a bit too strong on their skin. Others love the tingling, warming sensation it leaves.
EAST INDIES
An afternoon in the hammam. The sensual mystique of the orient is reflected in the essential oils mixed in this shaving cream: sandalwood, frankinscense, rose, jasmine. It is warm and mellow, and the frakinscense gives it enough of a spicy undertone to avoid being too sweet.
FJELLHEIM
For the refined savage. A foresty green blend of juniper and pine, an all time favourite of my Norwegian customers, and surprisingly lso very popular in other countries. This was the first shaving soap fragrance that I created, and it is still going strong.
FOLGEFONN
Invigorating, cooling mixture of menthol, eucalyptus, mint and pine. Folgefonn is a glacier in western Norway, we can see it from the boat when we are out fishing in the Selbjørnsfjord. It is beautiful, cool and green, as is the fragrance. Please note that due to the copious amounts of menthol that go into this blend, it really is a strong experience. Not for everyone, but if you like an extremely cooling and tingling shave, this one may do the trick.
GRAPEFRUIT PURE
Just what the name says. Pure essential oil of gapefruit. Very refreshing.
MIKLAGARD A Viking and a gentleman. Mikagard is the old Norse name for Istanbul. I created this scent to celebrate the middle eastern influence of the old Norse culture. Miklagard is a mellow, woodsy scent, made up of cedarwood, sandalwood and rosewood. The cedarwood freshens up the sandalwood and the rosewood sweetens it. It also has a hint of lavender.
MINT CONDITION
For a minty fresh start to your day. Green mint and spearmint laced with a herbacious undertone of thyme.
NEROLI
The fragrance of this shaving cream is of pure neroli essential oil only. Neroli essential oil is precious and can stand on its own. No blending, no compromise. Exclusive, fresh, elegant. Brightens even the dreariest morning.
ROSE
Gertrude Stein was right. A rose is a rose is a rose. Pure, simple, classic.
SANDALWOOD
Classic sandalwood. A blend of pure sandalwood essential oils from India, Australia and the West Indies.
SHEA PLEASURE
Shaving experience au naturelle. Suitable for those with very, very sensitive skin. Shea Pleasure shaving cream is made with organic, cold pressed, unrefined shea butter, and has no essential oils. Shea Pleasure shaving cream is very suitable for sensitive skin.
SLÅTTERØY – LIGHTHOUSE BAY RUM
There is a lighthouse just west of Fitjar called Slåtterøy. It is beautiful, and about to become extinct, because the government is talking about no longer keeping it going. Which is a crying shame, it is such a landmark and I will miss seeing the sweeps of light in the western sky every night.
Anyway, it shall at least have some wonderful Bay Rum shaving products named after itself, and it is forever engraved in the new signature straight razor knives from Thiers-Issard, together with a seagull.
Slåtterøy (Lighthouse Bay Rum) is Fitjar Soap's own version of Bay Rum. Lots and lots of lime, some lemon and bay rum and just a little coriander, nutmeg and cardamom to enhance the spicy scent that has made bay rum fragrance a favourite all over the world.
Shiver my Soul, this is as close as I will get to Treasure Island of the northern seas.
TELEMARK
A tribute to the wild, rustic backwoods of beautiful Telemark. The rich smell of sunburnt timber cabins treated with pine tar. The scent of a man just returned from chopping wood, with moss and forest, a hint of resin and wood smoke still lingering in his woollen sweater. This fragrance is not for everyone. However, if you love the smell of campfires and love spending time outdoors you may like this fragrance. And no, it does not come with a side order of fried eggs.
VILLMANN – WILD THING
For passionately meek men. Unpolished masculinity put to good use. Oakmoss, sandalwood, amber. A well balanced mix of male animal and good manners. |
