Our company
Fitjar Soap is a small company that was founded in 2002. We produce shaving soap, soaps and other natural skin care products. The soaps are made by hand, without compromise, with love, in Fitjar.

It started with small scale production at Torsdagsøy, in the Fitjar islands on the western coast of Norway. The first soaps were made in the farm kitchen, later the soapmaking kind of took over the small workshop (see picture on left). It was quite rustic, to tell the truth, and water was carted from the well nearby and the only heating was from a wood stove in the workshop.

A couple of years ago, the production was moved to mainland Fitjar. Though not as idyllic it does serve the purpose very well. And it IS nice not to have to bring the soaps in an open boat to the post office...

On the island of Torsdagsøy there are two old farms, where people have eked out a living since the early 1700s. The farmhouse has been restored and is our home. During the refurbishing we found an old barrel decorated with an inscription: two quick brushstrokes resembling a seagull in flight. This stylized seagull has been made the logo of Fitjar Soap.

The Fitjar coastline is a paradise for all who enjoy the company of seagulls and eagles, everchanging weather and fresh ocean air, and who values a simple life in tune with the elements. The landscape is weatherworn and rough, but offers a sheltered harbour for those who come close enough.

Fitjar Soap hopes to infuse the products with the fresh energy and wholesome atmosphere of the landscape and air of the beautiful Fitjar coastline, to offer you a small piece of life on the western coast of Norway.
