Welcome to the last Econix Ltd newsletter of 2009. Please read on for all the latest news on the Bio-bin® range from around the country…

Bio-Pod™ for community use

Econix have developed a new and easy-to- use modular system designed to hold the Bio-bin® range of clinical waste containers. The Bio-Pod™ is specifically designed for outreach workers, community nurses and other applications where a stable container is required in a mobile work environment. The Bio-Pod™ enables the user to carry a ready supply of new and in-use Bio-Bins® as well as other containers. Its simple, lightweight design makes it easy to assemble and carry. Featuring easy-grasp handles and stabilizing feet, it is ideal for use by community nurses, ambulance workers, podiatrists, or other community health workers. Sitting on a vehicle floor or in a boot, the Bio-Pod™ safely carries small amounts of waste and other materials. It can be easily adapted to a variety of uses due to its perforated apertures, allowing it to be used with a combination of containers if necessary. Please contact us for further information.

The Bio-Pod™ fits easily into the boot or the passenger footwell of a small car and enables community health workers to carry a selection of Bio-bin® waste containers with them.

Lincolnshire PCT commence landmark Bio-bin® community nursing pilot

Community nurses at Lincolnshire PCT have begun a three-month pilot of the Bio-bin® to contain infectious waste on home visits. Community nurses can safely dispose of potentially infectious waste in the Bio-bin® which can then be stored in a secure area within the patient’s home and collected by the Trust’s clinical waste contractor. The members of the Louth team are equipped with a selection of sizes of Bio-bin® and a Bio-Pod™ tray which provides a safe and easy way to hold and transport Bio-bins® as well as other waste receptacles. The Bio-Pod™ also helps nurses to be prepared for emergencies where the patient does not have a lockable area in which to leave the waste, allowing them to transport it safely and securely in their vehicle back to base. Using the Bio-bin® enables the Trust to have all the advantages of a rigid waste container whilst still benefitting from a lightweight and space-efficient design that helps to reduce the Trust’s carbon footprint. If you would like more information on how you can pilot the Bio-bin® for community nursing in your own Trust, please call our office on 0114 360 0709.
