Cyto Bio-bin® a success at Royal Hallamshire Urology

Sister Sue Beaumont and staff nurses in the Urology Outpatients Department at Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital are now successfully using the 5 litre purple and yellow Bio-bin® for their cytotoxic waste produced during the treatment of bladder cancer. The nurses have found that the design is ideal for this use as they can use one Bio-bin® per treatment without having too much wasted extra space as they have found with some of the larger sharps containers. Sister Sue Beaumont finds it very convenient to be able to order the Bio-bin® through NHS Supply Chain. Other customers wishing to order through Supply Chain can do so using the order codes below:

1 litre Bio-bin® used in schools for cervical cancer vaccination programmes

School Nurses in South Yorkshire have recently added the 1 litre orange Bio-bin® to their HPV Vaccination kit. The vaccine is currently being offered to all girls between the ages of 12 and 18 as part of an NHS drive to combat the spread of the HPV virus, one of the principal causes of cervical cancer. Some nurses are now required to segregate needles and soft waste rather than disposing of everything in a sharps container, and the Bio-bin® provides a user-friendly solution to this policy. Each nurse can easily fit a fold-flat 1 litre Bio-bin® in their HPV kit to take with them to school vaccination sessions and because of the lightweight paper construction, there is no need for them to be weighed down by an extra bulky, plastic container. This segregation using the low-cost Bio-bin® also means an overall saving on waste disposal. As well as the HPV vaccination programme, the Bio-bin® is also being used in the diphtheria, tetanus and polio school vaccination schemes.

Autumn and Winter Trade Shows

We have had a busy few months of trade fairs and exhibitions here at Econix Ltd. Both the ELRIG Drug Discovery show on the 7th and 8th of September (pictured) and the Institute of Biomedical Science Congress on the 28th, 29th and 30th September were fantastic shows, so a big thank you to the organizers.

If you missed us at these events, you can catch us at next week’s Primary Care Live Conference and Exhibition at Manchester Central on Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th of November (stand no 36), the leading learning forum and exhibition for the primary care sector. For more information and to register, please go to www.primarycarelive.com . We will also be exhibiting at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital’s Carbon Awareness Day on Thursday 5th November. The event is being held in the hospital’s main entrance hall and focuses on ways we can take better care of the environment and reduce our carbon footprint. Come and see us to learn more about how the Bio-Bin® can help you become more carbon-efficient and save you money in several areas.

The Bio-bin® was a big hit at ELRIG Drug Discovery 2009 at Liverpool’s BT Convention Centre.
