Econix Newsletter

We’ve had another busy month here at Econix. Read on for the latest news on the Bio-Bin® from around the country…

Northern HSC Trust use Bio-Bin®

As a result of the support of Alan Crooks from our Northern Ireland distributor Vector Scientific, the Bio-Bin® is now in use at Northern HSC Trust Laboratories. Biomedical Scientist and Laboratory Health and Safety Officer David Wright and his staff are currently using several hundred per month of the 5 litre yellow Bio-Bins® for clinical waste disposal in their laboratories. The haematology, biochemistry and microbiology departments at the hospital have all adopted the Bio-Bin® system and incorporated it into their existing waste stream whereby the waste is ultimately sent to the Trust’s eco-friendly alternative technology plant to be heat treated.

Full Bio-Bin® range now available through NHS Supply Chain

We are pleased to announce that the full range of Bio-Bin® sizes are now available through NHS Supply Chain in all four Department of Health Waste Segregation Colours. The range has been set up on Supply Chain’s E-direct ordering system. Wherever you see the E-direct symbol on the NHS Cat online Supply Chain catalogue you can order directly through the Supply Chain website (www.supplychain.nhs.uk) and Econix will then distribute the goods directly to you. Bio-Pax® samples premiered at Science World 2009

We received some great feedback on the new Bio-Pax® concept from visitors to Fisher Science World 2009 at Haydock Park this month. Visitors were able to inspect the prototype Bio-Pax®  on the Econix and Sterilin stands and give us their ideas on how best to develop the product. We found that a number of labs are already keen to place orders and we are now working closely with Sterilin and Fisher to produce initial samples of the product for customers to test out in their labs. More news to follow…

University of Birmingham Medical School trial yellow Bio-Bin®

As a result of meeting Technical Manager Mike Robinson from the University of Birmingham at Fisher Science World, the University’s Medical School are currently trialing the yellow Bio-Bin® in their labs, and with the help of Lisa Davies from Fisher Scientific we hope to further extend the trials across the School.
