| | Frequently asked questions (FAQ) | No doubt you have questions about Hypnotherapy. Here are some that I remember asking before I tried it for the first time: | | Q: How does hypnotherapy work? A: Many problems are caused by conflict between what the conscious mind ("I") wants and the unconscious mind. Under hypnosis the therapist makes suggestions which communicate with the unconscious and help resolve these conflicts.
Q: Will I lose control? A: No, you will be in complete control. You will hear everything I say. You will be able to think or imagine whatever you like. If you wish to come out of the trance, all you have to do is think "I want to wake up now", and you will. You can remember the whole session if you wish. Q: Can I be made to do something against will? A: No, you can not. Hypnotic suggestions work with what you want. If you do not want something, it will not happen to you, even if it is suggested under hypnosis. Q: Will I reveal my secrets? A: Under hypnosis, you will only speak when the therapist asks questions that are necessary for the treatment. Q: Will I always wake up? A: Yes, you will. The therapist has to wake you up at the end of the session in order to see the next client. Even if the therapist did not wake you up, a sudden noise, or being shaken by somebody will wake you, or you will eventually wake up of your own accord. Q: Are there any side effects? A: You may feel a little light-headed after the first session. That will be usually clear itself after a night's rest. Many people feel calmer and more relaxed than usual. Q: Are there any reasons I should not be hypnotised? A: Epilepsy, psychosis, and endogenous depression (depression caused by chemical imbalance in brain) are conditions which you should discuss with me. Q: How long does it take to feel the difference? A: It will have an immediate effect for exam/interview nerves and habit breaking such as smoking. With some problems, it may take a few weeks for you to feel the difference. Hypnotherapy treatment works at a deep level, very slowly and gradually. It may take 3 - 6 months after the first session to before you feel the whole benefit of it. Q: How does it improve concentration, memory, creativity, work and academic performance? A: 1. By removing stress and negative feelings such as fear, anxiety, and anger it removes internal distractions. Your mind is set free. 2. Hypnosis induces deep relaxation which improves circulation and helps the brain to function better. |
