Bird Watching

Cape Clear Holiday Hostel

The Old Coastguard Station, Cape Clear Island

Cape Clear Island Hostel was once, for a very short period of time, a bird observatory, and you can't help noticing why. There are Wrens and Song Thrushes and an abundance of other birds all around us. You can get more information about our current Bird Observatory, which is in the North Harbour, by clicking the following link: http://www.birdwatchireland.ie

We have had House Martins nesting under our eaves and a Song Thrushe nesting in our fuscia bushes. The bird song is a treat but I am not so keen on the pitter patter of the crows or gulls as they run across the flat roof atop of our bedroom at 5.30 in the morning.

The Storm Petrel shown below was photographed during a previous August on a trip to Fastnet lighthouse
