We are sure, and many guests tell us, that we are one of the cleanest hostels around. Well it is our home as well as a hostel, and we care deeply about it.
We do not have any employees so we do all of the work here at the hostel ourselves but back in the 20th century guests would be expected to do a chore as part of the deal and pop off to bed at 10.30am.
Now all we ask is that while our guests enjoy our hospitality they clear away and clean up after themselves and leave the kitchen, dining room, lounge, and bedrooms as clean and tidy as they found them.
We usually start our cleaning routine at 10.30am each morning (sometimes earlier), seven days a week, throughout the holiday season. This is why we have a 10.30am deadline for checking-out on your day of departure.
You can blame my Mammy for the cleanliness for it was she who would send me to school with a clean, white shirt, shorts and sandals every day. And it was she who would clean the caravan (whenever we were lucky enough to have a holiday) until it looked like it had just been delivered to site , when in fact it had seen better days and looked like an old hen house when we arrived - oh the good old days! The Mammy is 85 this year and still trims the fir trees in her garden herself.
