Father Amur... From the beginning of time the Russian people have turned to the great river, which the region was destined to be named after. The basin of the Amur River ranks the fourth largest in the world. Within the boundaries of the Amur region, the river is a wealth of water with tens streams, big and small, running into it. Very few regions in the northern parts belong to the basin of the two rivers, the Uda and the Lena. All rivers flow into the Amur Region which extends over 77,000 kilometers. Not counting the Amur there are six other major rivers that extend over 500 kilometers.
Along the beautiful river banks there are different reservoirs which are used for spawning fish, irrigating fields, and for personal pleasure. These provide enormous sources of power for the hydroelectric station on the second largest river in the region, the Zeya. These reservoirs are man-made and extend over 225 kilometers in length and 24 kilometers in width.
Nature provides the Amur with underground water sources which are very clean and precious. This water surfaces as springs all around the region. From early times these springs have contained a wealth of minerals and are often found as hot springs. Some of them have been successfully utilized medicinally for over a hundred years. This is a source of attraction for people of many different countries. The water of the Amur territory is known to have miraculous healing effects which provide rare chances to find, on the edge of the beautiful Taiga forest, world-class health resorts.
