SUNBEAM ALPINE SERIES IV

  Sunbeam Alpine

After many years of thinking about buying a classic car, I decided to buy a classic sports car, but I did not buy the normal Midget/MGB, instead I purchased a  1964 Sunbeam Alpine series IV.

I purchased BDF289C in 1991 a solid car, having lived in California (2AGP635) for its life, but had been repaired by some back- street bodyshops and had a   very cheap respray.  After driving her for a couple of months I decided a full bare-metal repsray was in order.  Never having striped a car before I did not realise  what a job it would be, many thanks to my wife Kerry for putting on overalls and helping me with the nitromores.

Once stripped new door skins and the rear valence were replaced due to old crash damage, before full professional respray.  Once back from the bodyshop, I  converted it to RHD, reconditioning and replaced all components.

In 1997, I attend the Sunbeam Alpine Owners Club national meeting at Warwick, I won the series IV concours, this enabled me to enter the master class at  Taunton in 1999, after a very close finish, I was luckly enough to win 1st place. In July 2003 at the National Meeting at Battlesbridge I  won the series IV concours  and runner up in the master class in 2004 at Leatherhead . Note you have to win your series to enter the master class the next year.
